This was the Liberal Democrats Muslim Forum website for the Liberal Democrat leadership contest. On 2 March 2006, Menzies Campbell was elected party leader. The rest of this site is as it was immediately before Menzies' election.
Fellow Liberal Democrats.
This Website has been prepared to help members to make the most important choice of electing the Best Leader for our Party. It provides the latest information of what the others, i.e. the Media and public, are saying about the three candidates.
We are all receiving letters, emails and telephone calls from the supporters of each candidate telling us all about their good qualities but what about their weaknesses? I think the media and e-groups are the best place to explore weakness, which are just as important as the strengths of each candidate.
My most important advice to you remains to vote as late as possible and monitor all developments as each candidate grows and we now more about each candidate.
So what are we looking for in a Leader?
- He must look good and Prime Minister like when appearing on TV and Parliamentary Question Time.
- His Values must be inclusive for Britain and Globe.
- He must be energetic to run around the country all year round and in particular be able to withstand the punishing road show at election time each year.
- He must look and sound convincing.
- He must be determined to push through the appropriate changes to the Party as promised by the pledges signed up to Reflecting Britain campaign.
- He must have a convincing record of delivering.

A YouGov poll said among the general public Foreign Affairs spokesman Sir Menzies Campbell had the backing of 18 per cent of those asked, Party President Simon Hughes 16 per cent and Mr Huhne 10 per cent.
Alarmingly for all three candidates, 56 per cent registered a "Don't Know".
Among avowed LibDem supporters from the public the front runner was Mr Hughes at 34% followed by Sir Menzies at 21 per cent with Mr Huhne trailing with 13%.
“The only poll that has been carried out among members who are voting in the leadership election of the Liberal Democrat Party shows Chris is clearly ahead.”
My own advice is to leave voting till the very last week once you have heard everything.
